“Basically Trio Mio inatoka kwa jina zangu. Jina zangu TJ Mario, ‘T’ then Mario chukua hiyo ‘rio’ ya mwisho, Trio, then Mio, end bado kwa Mario hiyo ‘M’ na ‘io’ za mwisho Mio, Trio Mio.Ni kitu tu yenye tulitengeneza mi tukiwa na bro yangu tu, tukachambua ilikuwa hard sana,”he explained.

Apart from explaining the origin, Trio also expounded on the meaning ‘Trio’ in his stage name, whereby he insisted that as an individual he is able to accomplish what three members of a music group can accomplish together.

“The name Trio Mio, trio is a group of three people, basically mimi naeza fanya vitu watu watatu wanafanya. Kama saa zingine unaeza pata kwa group, unaeza pata group ya wasee wako watu ka tatu, kuna msee anafanyanga chorus, kuna msee anafanya verse, kuna msee mwingine anaeza tengeneza bridge, mi naeza fanya zote hapo hivo,”he expounded.

Meanwhile, Trio has been taking the country by storm as netizens on different social media platforms continue to compare his talent to legendary artists including the late E-Sir.

Sharing the story about how he began to rap, Trio also opened up on his mother’s initial resistance to his rap career, as he credited his brother’s role in his initial rap career explaining that he hyped him up at the beginning, telling him that he has something unique.

  • Mario TJ Cassela (born 22 October 2004)[1] popularly known as Trio Mio is a Kenyan rapper, singer, and songwriter.
  • He started releasing music online in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, with his debut single “Bazenga – Vile Inafaa.”
  • He is best known for his hit single “Cheza Kama Wewe,” which was released on July 15, 2020, and featured remixes by other Kenyan artists such as Mejja, Exray and Nellythegoon.

Early Life And Education

He was born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2004 to a father of Italian and Congolese descent and a Kenyan mother.He completed his high school education in 2022 and sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams in November 2022.

Trio Mio Career

  • Trio Mio released his debut EP, “Son of the City,” in early 2020, which included “Cheza Kama Wewe” and other popular songs such as “Serereka” and “Kanairo”.
  • The EP received positive reviews from critics and fans, and topped the Kenyan charts for weeks. Trio Mio has since collaborated with various local and international artists, such as Shari Afrika, Tunu, Moeazy, Wiz Khalifa, Wakadinali, A Pass, Masauti, Sauti Sol, and Breeder.
  • His music is characterized by his versatile and dynamic style, blending rap, hip hop, and afrobeat genres.

Trio Mio is managed by his mother, Sofia Irma Sakwa, who is also his personal manager.

In 2022, Trio Mio was one of the performers at a peace concert in Nakuru, Kenya, ahead of the August 9 Kenyan General Election. He shared the stage with other popular artists such as Mercy Masika, Evelyn Wanjiru, Nadia Mukami, Sauti Sol, Octopizzo, and DJ Joe Mfalme.[11]

In July 2023, Trio Mio announced that he was working on a song with American rapper Wiz Khalifa,[12] which was expected to be released in August 2023. The track ultimately dropped in November 2023.[8]
